And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Romans 12:2)
How do you keep your mind from dwelling on unhealthy, untrue or distracting thoughts? Sometimes you need to just step back from the situation, take a deep breath, then start fresh. Remember, our thoughts are always moving from one idea to the next so it is important to stay connected to God by reading His Word, praying and meditating.
Here are some unique suggestions that will help you renew your mind:
ē Ask the Lord to guard and direct your mind. Too often, we simply go about our day without asking God to protect and direct our thoughts. From now on, start your day with a simple prayer: Heavenly Father, by your Holy Spirit, keep my mind firmly set where you want it to be focused today. Amen.
ē Recognize the source of self-focused and self-defeating thoughts. Our behavior begins in our mind and our mind is where spiritual transformation happens. Begin to recognize the enemy and fight him with Godís power and with Scriptural truth.
ē Replace self-focused thinking with a God focused mindset. In order to focus your mind on God requires some work on your part. Itís a personal choice that we must make every day. To allow our minds to think Godís things or worldly things.
ē Rest in the truth that you are accepted in Jesus Christ. Even after I have prayed to God to protect my mind, there are days when all I can do is rest in the truth that I am at peace with God, that I am free from accusation, and that I am Godís child.
My identity in Jesus Christ is the central fact that influences my present circumstances and determines my eternal future, and it is available by faith alone. Donít doubt, donít wonder, donít question it. Accept Godís gracious gift and rest in it.
